Scott Sandell - Island Cycle

Scott Sandell (b. 1953, Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American artist and master printmaker who describes himself as a "third generation abstract expressionist." He studied at the University of Minnesota under master printer Zigmunds Priede and later at Robert Blackburn's Printmakers Workshop in New York City, before founding his own press, Deepwater Editions. His work integrates natural motifs and Asian influences into bold abstract compositions rooted in collage, printmaking, and mixed media.

Sandell's prints are held in the permanent collections of the Walker Art Center, Brooklyn Museum, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the Chrysler Museum, among others. His work has been acquired by the U.S. State Department (Havana), the U.S. Embassy (Caracas), Caesar's Palace Las Vegas, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Monona Terrace. He has exhibited at The Chicago Center for the Print, The Hudson River Museum, and Christie's Contemporary Art since 1977.
