A couple dance on a windswept beach, the man in a dark suit and the woman in a flowing red dress, while a butler and a maid hold black umbrellas against the sea breeze. The maid’s dark dress and white apron, the couple’s formal clothing and the dramatic sky give the scene a cinematic sense of romance.
The Singing Butler brings together the glamour of an elegant dance and the open space of the shoreline. Warm light across the sand contrasts with the muted sky, drawing attention to the dancers at the centre. This unframed reproduction makes a striking focal point for a living room, dining room or bedroom.
Jack Vettriano is a self-taught Scottish painter whose work explores romance, nostalgia and dramatic human encounters. His distinctive figurative scenes evoke the atmosphere of classic cinema and mid-century style.
