Sam Toft - A Moon to Call Their Own

Mr. Mustard, in his warm mustard coat, wraps his arm around Violet in her brown coat, while Doris sits contentedly between them. The three of them stand beneath a glowing full moon against a deep blue sky, and the whole scene has that quiet, companionable warmth that makes Sam Toft's work so easy to love.
Sam Toft builds little stories rather than pictures. Working in pencil, oil pastels and coloured inks, she catches the ordinary moments that turn out to matter most, and A Moon to Call Their Own is one of her most tender: two people, one dog, and a sky all to themselves.

Living with it
This one belongs somewhere personal rather than on show: a bedroom wall, a reading corner, the top of a staircase you pass every night. The deep blues sit beautifully against warm whites and natural wood, and it makes a genuinely lovely anniversary or engagement gift for a couple, particularly one with a dog of their own.
