A great sweeping black form — part creature, part cosmos — dominates the white ground, its fluid contours enclosing spirals of fine ink line and small explosions of colour: a red triangle, a yellow wedge, a green and red bar, a glowing orange centre. This is Joan Miró at his most instinctive, the image alive with the same playful, dreamlike energy that made him one of the defining figures of twentieth-century art.
This five-colour offset lithograph was created for “Miro at Pace/Columbus,” an exhibition held at the Pace Gallery in Columbus, Ohio from January 21 to February 24, 1979. Published by Pace Posters in an edition of 2,000, it is a collector’s piece that brings a major museum-quality image to the wall at an accessible scale.
