A rare and powerful original work by Carl Beam RCA — one of the most significant artists in Canadian history. Born Carl Edward Migwans in M'Chigeeng (West Bay), Manitoulin Island, of Ojibway heritage, Beam made Canadian art history as the first artist of Native ancestry to have his work purchased by the National Gallery of Canada as Contemporary Art.

Nuclear Fission And Fusion reflects Beam's characteristic engagement with science, history, and Indigenous identity — weaving together imagery and text to confront the complexities of the modern world through an Indigenous lens. His work spans drawing, watercolour, etching, non-silver photography, photo transfer, installation, and ceramics, and has been exhibited across North America, Italy, Denmark, Germany, and China.

Beam's work is held in major collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, NY. In 2000, he was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts.

This piece is in exceptional archival condition — a rare opportunity to acquire an original work of enduring cultural and artistic significance.
